Deveniti sclavii oamenilor, fortati sa munceasca, obligati sa traiasca in conditii mizere, blamati si neacceptati in comunitate de catre po######tia sud-africana, extraterestrii sunt victimele frecvente ale abuzurilor si rasismului. Atunci cand agentul guvernamental Wikus este trimis in interiorul Districtului 9 pentru a face o investigatie si a afla scopul venirii alienilor pe Pamant si natura armelor pe care le folosesc acestia, este infectat cu biotehnologia extraterestra.
